Moving into a new home is an exciting time, but you want to make sure you avoid these common mistakes.

The excitement of buying a new home can easily overwhelm you. It can cause you to do things you normally wouldn't do. When you know you have your home and you are finalizing the deal, you should plan what you will be doing over the next month or so. Our real estate agents understand how crazy it can be to prepare to move your entire home, even if it is only for a short distance. Take a few minutes and make a note or two on how you plan to accomplish your daily tasks. Having things written down can help.

  • Pretty vs Practical – When you start to decorate, you are flooded with ideas. Don't opt for pretty pieces that have no purpose. Instead, choose more practical items that you can use in different ways. Pretty is nice, but in many cases, the item will more than likely just sit there and collect dust. Instead, buy items that are practical so that you will always get your money's worth.

  • Out With the Old – Whatever you do, do not throw out your old furniture! Much of it can still be used. Instead of just tossing it, repurpose it. Give it a facelift or add a few new touches so that it will better fit with the architecture of your new home. There's no reason to throw out perfectly good furniture when all it needs is a good cleaning.

  • Don't Forget to Declutter - Don't forget to declutter your home! As you pack, start getting rid of the things that no longer serve a purpose. Throw away things you haven't used in a year or longer. If you don't want to throw things away, donate to your church or another local charity. Have a garage sale if you want to make a little extra money.

  • Don't Wait to Start Packing – If you are looking for Crookston homes for sale, you should still start packing early. Go through every room and start to box up the things you won't be needing until after you get to your new home. Make sure to label each box so that you know what is in it and which room it belongs in when you unpack the truck. Packing early is a good way to get a head start so you won't have to rush to get finished.

  • Doing It All Yourself Is Overrated – If you try to move everything yourself, you will more than likely break a few of your items, and you may even hurt yourself. If you do it yourself, it may take you more time than you expect to complete the move. Hire a group of moving professionals. They do this for a living, so the process will go much smoother, and you won't have to wait for weeks to sleep in your new bed.

  • Don't Hire Just Any Movers – Before you hire a moving company, make sure to research them carefully. Pick out two or three, and then look them up. Read the testimonials from their customers. Ask questions and check the Better Business Bureau. Learn as much as you can about them before you offer them the job. Know their prices and let them know what you expect in return.

You don't have to let moving get to you. Contact us to learn more about the home buying process. We understand how frustrating it can be. We are here to make the process go smoothly and help you get into the house of your dreams.
