Polk County Musems

Our real estate agents are glad to call Polk County, Minnesota home – and we think you will be, too. Polk has a winning combination of a strong local economy, a close-knit community, and plenty of exciting amenities that give you lots of things to do all year around. Steeped in history, Polk County is truly worth exploring!

Crookston homes for sale are right smack dab in the middle of it all. A city of just under 7,500 residents, it is the county seat and convenient to Grand Forks, North Dakota. It is home to the Grand Theater, the oldest continuously operating movie house in the United States, which was built back in 1910.

And with so many local museums, you can start to learn about the fascinating history of Crookston, Grand Forks, and Minnesota any time you wish.

Let's take a look at the historical museums in Crookston, MN, and throughout Polk County:

  • Polk County Historical Museum – 719 East Robert Street, Crookston, MN 56716
Polk County Historical Museum is operated by a nonprofit as the centerpiece of historical scholarship in and about Polk County, Minnesota. Located right in central Crookston, it has a variety of unique features that tell the story of the local area. Those include a preserved 1876 log house and an 1892 frame house, as well as a rotating list of agricultural and pioneer-related exhibits. A farmer's market operates here for most of the year!

  • RRV Sugarbeet Museum – 1345 Fairfax Avenue, Crookston, MN 56716
RRV Sugarbeet Museum is the place to commemorate one of the most important agricultural products in Minnesota and in Crookston: The sugarbeet. Not only will you learn all about this valuable, nutritious, and versatile crop, but you can also partake in a slew of family-friendly events that will put a smile on your face. Tractor pulls, beet digging with historical beet harvesters, and much more happen on a regular basis.

  • East Polk Heritage Center – 910 Hilligoss Boulevard, Fosston, MN 56542
East Polk Heritage Center was founded in 1986 to tell the stories of the "Original 13 Townships" of eastern Polk County and the surrounding communities. It maintains an archive of artifacts, memorabilia, photographs, and personal documents pertaining to the 1800s-era settlers who laid the foundation of what is now our modern Polk County. The historic Larson House, completed in 1888, is a must-see complete with its period furnishings.

  • Northern Lights Railroad Museum – 219 20th Street Northeast, East Grand Forks, MN 56721
Northern Lights Railroad Museum is a loving reproduction of the original Casey Holt Junction facilities including a model train depot and a highly detailed digitized scale railroad. You can also visit it to use the meeting rooms, see the telegraph office and public viewing hall, or step through the museum's racks of historical memorabilia from the Golden Age of Rail. Outside, you'll find a restored Great Northern caboose on the 800 feet of railroad track.
