Earth Day in Crookston: Local Green Events and Sustainable Living Tips | LeBlanc Realty

There's an important holiday coming up on April 22nd: Earth Day! The first Earth Day was observed in 1970, and ever since then, the holiday has been an occasion to refocus on sustainability and the environment. We all live on this planet, so it only makes sense for us to work together to care for it. Luckily, the Crookston area is abuzz with Earth Day celebrations, and there are plenty of ways to make your own lifestyle more sustainable. Check out these top recommendations from our real estate agents.

Celebrate Earth Day in Crookston

MN350 Earth Day Celebration

Address: 420 15th Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55454

MN350 is an organization with a mission to reduce pollution and support the transition to cleaner energy sources in Minnesota. One of the best ways to learn more about their movement and its mission is to attend their Earth Day Celebration on April 19th.

This event is scheduled from 1:30 - 4:30 pm at the Brian Coyle Community Center. Attendees are asked to pre-register on the event website. There is no cost to attend.

Earth Day Cleanup

Address: 1007 West Franklin Ave., Minneapolis, MN, 55405

Meet at Sebastian Joe's on West Franklin Street, then walk through the surrounding neighborhood to help clean up litter. This Earth Day event is a great opportunity to meet like-minded locals and get involved in the community.

The Earth Day Cleanup is scheduled for 10:00 - 11:30 am on Saturday, April 18th. The Lowry Hill Neighborhood Association often holds cleanup events like this one, so if you have a good time, consider coming back.

Bee Run/Walk/Cleanup

Address: 724 Sibley St. NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413

Do you need some motivation to get in shape or stay in shape? Sign up for the Bee Run/Walk/Cleanup, a 5k race along the beautiful Mississippi River. On April 18th, the race starts at 9:00 am, and then the river cleanup effort starts at 9:30 am. Entries are $40 per person in advance, or $45 on the day of the race.

Dogs are welcome at the race, and participants are encouraged to wear costumes. There will be live music and local vendors on-site, too. Prizes are awarded not only to the race winners but also to the best costumes!

Sustainable Tips for Home

If you'd rather stay home on Earth Day, consider spending an hour or two making your space and daily habits more sustainable. Here are a few ideas:

  • Set up a rain barrel, and use the water to irrigate your garden or lawn.
  • Install aerators on your faucets to reduce water use.
  • Replace leaky gaskets around your fridge and freezer doors to reduce energy consumption.
  • Say goodbye to one-time-use, plastic food storage containers, and use glass instead.

Sustainable Tips for On-The-Go

You can also live more sustainably while out and about. Start with these suggestions:

  • Set up a carpool with coworkers to reduce fuel consumption.
  • Group errands together to reduce the number of miles you drive.
  • Pack snacks and drinks in reusable containers to reduce your reliance on pre-packaged snacks and heavily packaged takeout meals.
  • Whenever possible, walk or ride your bike instead of driving.

Earth Day is an occasion not only to celebrate our planet but also to care for it. Whether you stay home or attend a local event, we hope you get a chance to reflect and give back to our beautiful planet. Don't hesitate to contact us if you're looking for Crookston homes for sale.
